Partnership with Housing First, Inc.

Housing First, Inc. donates $600k to help other local nonprofits End Homelessness for Families in Mobile and Baldwin Counties.

MOBILE, Ala. – (December 21, 2022): Housing First, Inc., a Mobile, AL based nonprofit whose mission is to end homelessness in southwest Alabama, today announced it has entered into partnerships with the Salvation Army of Coastal Alabama and Dumas Wesley Community Center, to help shelter and serve more homeless families within its service area. Housing First, Inc. has pledged $300k to the Salvation Army’s Family Haven, which is located in Mobile, AL, providing emergency housing for homeless families, and offering life skills needed to maintain permanent housing. Another $300k has been committed by Housing First, Inc. to help support the Dumas Wesley Community Center’s newly established Baldwin County Family Village, a 13-unit facility located in Fairhope, AL, which will provide transitional housing and support services for women and children experiencing homelessness. These unique partnerships, extend Housing First Inc.’s homeless support system in Mobile and Baldwin Co., by leveraging interagency collaboration for maximum community benefit.

Established in 1993 to address the needs of the homeless in Mobile, Alabama, Housing First, Inc., a 501c3 has evolved over time to include Baldwin County in its service area. With a mission to end homelessness in southwest Alabama and a vision for everyone to have safe, affordable housing as well as the resources to maintain it, Housing First Inc. provides housing assistance and supportive services in Mobile and Baldwin Counties, serving as the lead agency for the Continuum of Care (CoC). Utilizing federal, state, local, and private funding sources to serve those seeking assistance within its service area, Housing First, Inc., located in Mobile, Alabama, employs approximately 45 staff members who administer the CoC's coordinated entry system; data collection and reporting; and housing, case management, and street outreach services. Housing First also hosts Project Homeless Connect, its premier annual homeless services event, and is also responsible for conducting HUD’s Point-in-Time Count each year. The organization has served an estimated 3200 homeless individuals over the last twelve months, with over 600 of them receiving direct housing assistance from Housing First, Inc.
